5:00pm - 5:30pm + 5:30pm - 7:30pm
1207 RMI South + RMI Good Life Garden

🧣🍂 It’s that time of year! 👀 We invite you to join us on Friday, October 13th for… 👻 (Boo!) our Fall Welcome Picnic! 🙌 We’ll bring alt protein mains! 😛 Just RSVP, and if you want, feel free to contribute apps, sides, and desserts (not necessary, no pressure)!
Scalability: The Elephant in the Room for Cultivated Meat
Thursday | October 26
4:00pm - 5:30pm
Virtual + 1207 RMI South
😇 Omeat is a food startup pioneering a scalable way to produce cultivated meat. They use plasma humanely collected from cattle to support tissue growth. This sidesteps the need for inhumane inputs like fetal bovine serum or artificially-engineered growth factors.
👩🔬👨🔬 Senior scientists Dr. Sarah Brookes and Dr. Arun Athmanathan will be Zooming in, so join us online or at 1207 RMI South! From 4-5 PM, we’ll have them on, and following that, from 5-5:30 PM, there will be light refreshments and conversation in 1207 RMI South!
General Meeting #2: A Race To Mission, Not A Race To Market Discussion
Tuesday | November 14
5:00pm - 6:00pm
ARC Meeting Room 1
🚀 🧫 🥩 Come join us for a conversation about how we can work together to maximize the positive impact of cellular agriculture! This will be an open discussion where we’ll get into topics like:
How do we maintain focus on the mission while also remaining financially viable?
What are some of the good/neutral/bad/unknown impacts of this emerging field?
How can we create a system that’s transparent and accessible for everyone?
🤓 You won’t need to study much to participate in this conversation, but we highly recommend reading the one-pager paper and/or watching some of the 36 min video discussing these ideas.
🤩 New Harvest is one of the foundational pillars of the emerging cellular agriculture field. After helping companies get some of the first funding, seeding the growth of research centers at universities on both sides of the country, and helping establish the field, they shifted their mission towards trying to “maximize the positive impact of cellular agriculture.”
😇 We hope to frame this as an inclusive discussion—so please bring your thoughts and we’ll handle the rest. Snacks and refreshments provided!
unClassic Thanksgiving Day
Thursday | November 30
6:00pm - 8:00pm
RMI Sensory
🍁 Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving! But maybe it a bit too classic for you? 🤔 You wanted a holiday feast with a little spice to it? 🤔
🍾 We got you! Come and join The Davis Alt Protein Project and Peace at UC Davis for an unClassic Thanksgiving Day featuring unClassic Foods on Thursday, Nov 30th from 6-8 PM in RMI Sensory :)
🍄 unClassic Foods is a San Francisco-based company highlighting oyster mushrooms as the center-of-the-plate protein! They’ve designed mushrooms to have 4x more protein than beef/chicken. We will be serving up their unClassic oyster mushroom steak tips and nuggets!
💁♀️ Founder & CEO Luiza Villela will be joining us virtually to discuss her journey from a UC Berkeley 2020 Graduate in Integrative Biology to food startup founder.
🪄 We also encourage attendees to bring a potluck dish that puts an unclassic twist on holidays dishes!
⌛️ We have limited space (35 people), so if you’re intrigued, sign up fast! The RSVP form will close once capacity has been reached.
Reel Foods Seminar
Tuesday | December 5
5:00pm - 6:30pm
1207 RMI South
🎣🔬 The UC Davis Cultivated Meat Consortium and The Davis Alt Protein Project are hosting a seminar with Reel Foods, and you’re invited! Reel is on a mission to create delicious, flaky, cultivated fish fillets. Hear from CEO John Ahrens and CTO Robert Weeks as they provide an overview of tissue engineering approaches to produce vascularized tissue that can enable the production of thick “cut” cultivated fish fillets and other cultivated seafoods.
